EIG Conference 2024: Hull

Tuesday 3rd - Friday 6th July 2024

The second in person conference since the Covid pandemic, chaired by Alex Finlay with Deputy Chair Emma Goode. 170 delegates enjoyed the unique EIG spirit and a packed technical programme covering basic techniques through to space rock research. 16 trade stands and generous sponsors supported the exceptional value for money of the conferences. Field trips were taken to Drax Power Station, Broomfleet Quarry and an atmospheric Spurn Point. The Ansel Dunham lecture was given by Hull alumnus and long standing EIG committee member Adrian Charters, outlining his personal journey in geoscience technology from slide rule to state of the art drone surveying. A great contribution from young early years professionals was notable as was an excellent conference dinner. Another raffle record was broken with over £2,500 raised for the RNLI and Hull Children’s University.

Conference Proceedings

Papers will in due course be accessible via the relevant proceedings link on the EIG website following the published version being issued to delegates and presenters.

The EIG 2024 conference proceedings are currently being collated and prepared for publication and will include papers which have been submitted following presentations given at the 2025 1-day technical meeting.

Welcome to #EIGHULL2024

The organising committee are excited to finally open online bookings for the upcoming conference in Hull, with what promises to be a diverse and engaging programme, coupled with some interesting optional field visits to local extractive industry operations.

This year’s conference sessions will cover a wide variety of topics, including the usual core subject areas and case studies, and promise a bit of something for everyone:

EIG Hull 2024 programme

Following feedback from delegates at previous events, we have decided to move the conference from its traditional Thursday / Friday lecture format this year to a Wednesday / Thursday spot, with field trips on Tuesday and Friday. This will allow those wishing to go on the post-conference field visits to do so without eating into the weekend, and hopefully also encourage people to stay a bit longer and continue to network after the final lecture sessions without needing to keep one eye on the Friday traffic.

You can book your place at the conference using our new online booking system. You will be able to purchase your delegate attendance, plus any optional extras such as additional nights accommodation or secure one of the limited places on our popular field visits.

The committee have worked hard to maximise value for money from the event, helped by the great support from our many sponsors and trade exhibitors, including our headline sponsor the MPA.

Social Events

In addition to our usual excellent Conference Dinner which will take place on the evening of the 4th September, we are delighted to be able to extend those networking opportunities at this year’s Icebreaker Reception on the evening of the 3rd September, kicking off the conference in style at ‘The Deep’, the spectacular waterfront venue in Hull.

After kick-starting the conference at such a breathtaking venue, the drama will continue the following evening where a performance from our live band will follow the Conference Dinner. As with all our activities, this event is sponsorable.

This year the organising committee wanted to inject a bit of ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the Conference Dinner evening and go for a black tie event. However, we recognised that not everyone is comfortable in dinner jackets and evening gowns, so instead we have branded the evening ‘Dress to Impress’. There is no obligation to come in your most suave and debonair outfits, but why not join in the fun. Go on, get your gald rags on!!

Various drinks packages for the Conference Dinner are available, as well as sponsoring the band performance itself (see below).

Sponsorship

In order to maintain the exceptional value that the EIG Conference offers, we rely heavily on our sponsors to help subsidise the event, allowing us to offer great venues, congenial socials and a stimulating programme. If you would like to support EIG by sponsoring the event in Hull, please review the link below, where you can find numerous opportunities for budgets large and small. All our sponsors are promoted in different ways across the conference media. As with the rest of the conference, sponsorship can now be secured via our online store.

Trade Exhibition

Aligning with the rest of the conference in embracing online booking, stands at the popular conference trade exhibition went on sale from the 31st of January 2024. Thank you to all those who have supported the EIG in the past, we look forward to welcoming you Hull 2024. Book one of the remaining spaces now:
