2024 Ansel Dunham Lecturer Announced!

At least four nominations were received before the November deadline. The key criteria for their selection included:

• A person of standing and experience in the extractive industry geology community; and

• A person who can deliver an entertaining and informative talk lasting 40–60 minutes

After consideration of the nominees, all of whom were considered worthy candidates, Adrian Charters Principal Associate at Land and Minerals Consulting Limited was awarded 2024 lecturer and will open the conference programme of talks on 4th September with the prestigious Ansel Dunham lecture.

Past Event :

The EIG one-day technical seminar entitled: “QUARRY DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE, NOW!” took place on 14th September 2023 at the Stratford Manor, Warwickshire.

Approximately 120 delegates joined us for the event, 14 speakers delivered talks over three sessions with panel questions and discussions from the audience.

After an introduction, the day’s presentations and discussions centered around the following;

  • Too much or too little water!

  • Designing out CO₂

  • Design for biodiversity net gain

The speakers and programme is available in the EIG second circular Newsletter!

The twin issues of climate change and biodiversity collapse are presenting the extractive industry with real physical, legislative, investment and social challenges. Each speaker offered an insite, case study or advice as to how, through quantification, early consultation and through forward thinking quarry planning and design, the industry can help position itself to meet these challenges, comply with current and future legislation, and deliver a sustainable business model.

As we are all aware the Quarries of the Future are being designed Now and the seminar was poignant in helping deliver resilient, viable and environmentally acceptable mineral sites that are essential to modern society.

The EIG Committee would like to thank all of the events sponsors and exhibitors for their support in delivering another successful and engaging seminar.

If you have any feedback from this event please contact Craig Arditto (craig.arditto@tarmac.com)

NB. The QNJAC (Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee) meeting preceded the EIG seminar further information in that regard should be sent direct to QNJAC.

The EIG Experience!

Wondering what the reasons are to attend one of our events? If so, you don’t have to believe what we say, have a look what past delegates think.

Take a look at our 2016 Conference summary video and find out why the events mean so much to the industry and the delegates that attend.

Interested in contributing?

If so, please contact EIG secretary Clive Mitchell.

Membership of the organising committee is open to all volunteers who are interested in the UK’s extractive industry, and opportunities remain to join. The roles undertaken by individual committee members are quite varied and suit a wide range of knowledge and experience.
